Showcased as part of the 2018 Santa Monica Artwalk, Sand Pendulum, invites the viewer into a collaborative, participatory role. A large, rusted hopper is fitted with a ball valve and suspended from an airport hangar ceiling with steel aircraft cable. A volunteer gallery visitor persuades the hopper backward and gives it a shove. Out of the hopper spills 300 pounds of black sand (originally intended as an abrasive for sandblasting) in hypnotic patterns onto the cement floor.
